At last the cricket season has got, rather uncertainly, underway.
On Tuesday 12 May, on a glorious afternoon, the 1st XI played the Royal School, Dungannon, in the first round of the Ulster Bank Schools' Cup and won convincingly by nine wickets. They had the home advantage and played with authority and style putting RSD out for a total of 54, with Daniel Kennedy taking 6 wickets for 10 runs, a great performance. BGS made the total for the loss of only one wicket, with Captain Jordan McKeown scoring 28 not out. They face Campbell College in the second round, which will take place when the weather permits.
On Wednesday, 13 May, the 2nd XI lost to Grosvenor Grammar 1st XI, in their first round of the same competition, by six wickets. This margin perhaps flatters Grosvenor a little. Luke Melvin played exceedingly well with the bat, while Johnny Evans took three wickets.
The U13 XI had a convincing victory over BRA on Monday 11 May by nine wickets. The U12 XI look forward to the opening round of their cup, also against BRA, but, because of the weather, there has been no opportunity for the fixture.
