Quarter Final of the Schools Debating Competition
Bangor Grammar School’s Senior Debating Team took another step towards the Schools Cup Final by defeating St Louis’ Grammar School in the Quarter Final of the Schools Debating Competition on Wednesday 22nd February. Jack Steen (Year 14) and Archie Arran (Y12) opposed the motion ‘This house believes that we over-promote academic education at the expense of technical and vocational education’. In a lively and, at times, tense debate, Archie and Jack demonstrated a high level of acumen and excellent debating technique. Both students are eager to defend the Schools Cup in this year’s final at Stormont (BGS won the cup in 2016). To make it to the final, BGS must now defeat RBAI in the Semi Finals, which will be held in Belfast on 21st March.
