150th Anniversary Table Quiz

What could be a more appropriate way of marking the 150th Anniversary of the establishment of Bangor Grammar School than to measure (in the best Government traditions) the mental capabilities of its former pupils? And what better than to tease out those things that they learned all those years ago than a Table Quiz and thus prove how smart they really are?

With this aim in mind, a very healthy crowd gathered in Ballyholme Yacht Club on Friday 9th February to test their mental capabilities. Nine teams grappled with the rigours of six rounds, including two directly related to the School, and a picture round on the well-known ‘faces’ of Bangor. The Question-master had sifted through the history of the School as well as the achievements of some of its former pupils to test the knowledge of the distinguished guests – unfortunately some of them did little to distinguish themselves in these particulars areas!

Celebrating a Sesquicentary is not normally a bundle of laughs but on this occasion the packed house enjoyed a light-hearted evening’s entertainment which complimented the programme of more weighty events that have been arranged to celebrate this significant landmark.

Having led from the second round, Norman’s Conquerors, held off a late challenge from Blair’s Babes, The Guv’nors and the Kendrick Krew, to take the Big Money Prize, while Stevie’s Stalwarts managed to fend off the Wooden Spoon. In the end everyone was a winner with over £500 being raised for The Headmaster’s Charitable Fund.

Thanks to everyone who helped organising the Event, including the supper, and most importantly those who got their teams together and made the evening a great success.
